The position is located in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Executive Office of the President (EOP). The incumbent serves as an Economist engaged in economic analysis. Develops and executes economic policies and participates in a wide range of cross-cutting economic studies. The incumbent undertakes a variety of important, confidential and urgent assignments for OMB leadership.

Duties

As a Economist, GS, 0110, 9/11, your typical work assignments may include the following: Responsible for analyzing the effect of Federal spending, taxation and regulation. Undertakes in-depth theoretical and empirical analyses of changes in inflation, demand and financial indicators. Leads economic and fiscal model development Reviews current economic and technical literature for concepts, conclusions and data which contribute to the understanding of the effects of existing economic policies. Critiques materials for consideration by the Cabinet-level Economic Policy Councils.

Requirements

  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position (DTDP) and is covered by the Executive Office of the President Drug-Free Workplace Program.

  • You must be able to obtain and hold a Top Security clearance.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standards. ALL QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria listed below in order to meet the basic requirement for Economist, 0110. TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Must possess one of the following. Degree: Bachelor's or higher degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. (Must submit transcripts) or Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Must submit transcripts) -AND- You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you meet the following minimum qualification requirement:One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates 1-applying the methods and principles of economics and their application to research projects; 2-researching procedures and basic techniques; and 3-using different types of economic and statistical programs for evaluating and/or completing research projects. OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR A combination of experience and education. (Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements as specified above. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9.) You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you meet the following minimum qualification requirement:One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates 1-applying the methods and principles of economics and their application to research projects; 2-using different types of economic and statistical programs for evaluating and/or completing research projects; and 3-communicating findings and in writing descriptive reports. OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR A combination of experience and education. (Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements as specified above. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9.) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
