This position serves as the principal clerical and administrative support position, by carrying out and coordinating all the clerical and day-to-day administrative support activities which are typically required to accomplish the work of the organization. This position is located within the VA Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Duties

The major duties include but are not limited to:
Providing assistance with a variety of problems and inquiries which are received in person, telephonically, or by referral.
Drafts correspondence, such as routine official correspondence, social and personal acknowledgements, and routine office reports.
Provides clerical and administrative assistance to the organization.
Makes arrangements for meetings and contacting all personnel expected to attend.
Arranges for transportation and lodging for participants.
Gathers material for use in reports, presentations, and speeches/
Assists staff in the use of office automation hardware and software.
Utilizes software utilities and function commands to manipulate texts to accomplish formats, revisions, and additions.
Ensures proper punctuation, grammar, spelling, and capitalization.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-Time; Monday through Friday; 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

To qualify for this position at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled? Specialized experience includes providing administrative support to an organization and performing a variety of clerical and administrative duties; drafting a range of communication/correspondence; scheduling appointments and meetings; coordinating travel and conference schedules; serving as a liaison with management and support staff; and utilizing office automation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and must possess excellent organizational skills. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, however may include some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. The work is performed in an office setting that is adequately heated, lighted and ventilated.
