This position is located in Denali National Park and Preserve, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. Duties

This position is in the National Park Service, Alaska Region 11, and is part of the Communication Center branch of the Visitor and Resource Protection Division located in Denali National Park and Preserve. The position reports to the Communication Center Manager. The center operations are complex serving multijurisdictional all-risk incidents for 16 park units within the Alaska Region. The Alaska Region Communication Center (ARCC) operates 24 hours-a-day, 365 days a year and supports law enforcement, aviation, wildland/structural fire, medical, search and rescue, intelligence, and other emergency and routine functions on behalf of the National Park Service with other Federal, State, and Local agencies. The Supervisory Dispatcher's primary objectives are to supervise subordinate employees while ensuring seamless operations in the communication center. The Supervisory Dispatcher balances the needs of the center with the needs and well-being of dispatch staff. The Supervisory Dispatcher projects and models our mission of ensuring the safety of staff and visitors of the National Park Service in Alaska by providing a professional point-of-contact for communications and emergency services. Major duties include: Supervise subordinate employees while ensuring seamless operations in the public safety communication center. Assist the Center Manager in the development and maintenance of complex dispatch operating plans, guides, protocols, directories, operating systems, databases, intelligence sources, and other reference/training material. Ensures that staff have the skills, training, motivation, tools, and resources to be effective, resilient, and healthy in their roles within communication center. Plans and schedules work to be accomplished by subordinates, reviews work and performance, and performs employee appraisals and evaluations. Acts in a leadership role as an emergency contact and is responsive to questions and problems that staff encounter. Also ensures continuity of operations and that the center meets minimum staffing levels.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/02/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs as a Lead Dispatcher providing public safety dispatch operation in a complex environment and must be able to obtain and maintain access for both the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) and National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) systems, both of which require that the incumbent cannot have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor. -and- This position performs typing and the requirement of typing 40 WPM is required. Candidates who do not meet these requirements by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. -AND- In addition to meeting the selector factors listed above; to qualify for this position at the GS-10 grade level, you must possess the following specialized experience by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal Service that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes activities such as: leading and providing direction to personnel within a public safety communication center; training and providing continuing education to new and established employees; serving as a point-of-contact for day-to-day operations; in addition to performing the role of dispatcher.
