Duties

Serves as a Fire Prevention Inspector working a 60-hour week, providing Fire and Emergency Services to the organization. Plans, schedules and conducts fire prevention inspections of facilities and operations. Inspects a wide variety of mission essential operations, requiring special adaptation of standard fire prevention practices and procedures to meet local, national security, homeland defense and space exploration requirements. Interviews personnel at the incident scene, including other fire fighters, and gathers information relative to the fire. Participates in the development and delivery of fire prevention training programs.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Employee required to work 60 hour week.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear an uniform.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense, International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application): Fire Fighter I and II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, Hazardous Materials Incident Command, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Service Instructor I, Fire Inspector I and II. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer LiteracyFire Prevention, Inspection, and Code ComplianceFire/Life Safety Training, Public Education, and OutreachOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
