About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide direct support to a four-star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also works with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service, inter-agency and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American nations and peoples are substantial.

Duties

Coordinate Joint Individual Augmentation (JIA) requirements for SOUTHCOM and Joint Task Forces. Manage JIAs in Force Management Tracking System for Joint Staff validation and sourcing. Review SOUTHCOM contingency plans, operational plans and campaign plans for J1 equities. Serve as a member of the J1 Crisis Action Team in support of operations and exercises. Coordinate with SOUTHCOM components for taskings and due outs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement 10% of the time.
  • Position requires a Security Clearance at the Top Secret SCI level, as the incumbent will be required to access, process, use and safeguard classified National Defense information.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience 1) Planning, coordination, and execution for contingency operations and exercises. 2) Conducting staff coordination and communication with counterparts and senior leaders to assist with identifying and resolving conflicts and making well thought out and logical recommendations. 3) Demonstrating ability to utilize personnel accountability systems and experience in tracking the fill of personnel on a manning document. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Knowledge ManagementOral CommunicationOrganizational Awareness Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
