About the Position: Serves as the Supervisory Future Operations Strategist/Planner and senior civilian in the Future Operations Division of USSOUTHCOM J3.
Duties
Establish future operations planning and execution, with heavy emphasis on counter-threat and competition operations.
Provide executive level leadership to the combatant command's future operations and crisis action planning efforts.
Demonstrate mastery in future operations and crisis action planning.
Advise staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of executive-level management.
Develop procedures and provide senior management of daily and future planning efforts and operations to ensure accomplishment of broadly defined executive directive requirements.
Provide subordinate supervisors and staff with direction regarding future operations policies, procedures, and guidelines covering all domains in coordination with the directorate executive and senior leadership.
Review developmental needs of subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees and makes decisions on non-routine, costly or controversial training requirements.
Establish policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design as necessary to predict and eliminate challenges to mission accomplishment,
Ensure continued readiness of the operational planning teams, to fulfill directed tasks that meet Commander requirements to rapidly inform and support the command's decision-making ability for contingency operations from routine to catastrophic.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a Security Clearance at the TOP SECRET/Special Sensitive Level as the incumbent will be required to access, process, use, and safeguard classified National Defense information.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- This position is emergency essential (E-E). It is considered essential to support Army's mobilization and wartime mission. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-15 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience dealing with advisory services, and direction for combatant command level planning, developing strategic/operational plans in response to crisis, counterterrorism and counter-narcotics; implementing strategic level policy; experience with overall joint planning and execution processes to include proficiency of requirements and capabilities with an emphasis on crisis action procedures in support of time sensitive deployments and real-world crisis; and experience providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight for all civilian matters.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
