This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serve as a Medical Technician in the Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory (FTDTL). Perform large scale Immunoassay testing for drugs of abuse in specimens.

Duties

Administer large-scale immunoassay testing on service member urine or body fluids to detect drugs of abuse. Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, and diagnostic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Maintain maintenance records, logs, charts and graphs. Call in medical equipment maintenance personnel when malfunctions occur.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes performing calibration, preventative maintenance and diagnostic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment; administering immunoassay tests to identify drugs of abuse; and maintaining quality control data and preventative maintenance records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Chemistry, Microbiology, or other Biological Science disciplines. OR Combination of Education and Experience: : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
