You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT MECHANIC (BOILER) of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII.

Duties

You will handle tools and equipment (e.g., wrenches, thickness gauges, hoists, measuring devices, electric and battery operated tools) to repair, adjust, and test machinery and equipment. You will install, maintain, and repair equipment connected or related to pumping systems (e.g., filters, traps, valves, heat exchangers, automatic valves). You will coordinate maintenance, repair, and inspection requirements of industrial equipment with customers. You will read and interpret blueprints to diagnose problems, plan sequence of repairs, and disassemble or reassemble mechanical equipment.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE DUTIES OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, such as: 1) Performing recurring maintenance and major repairs on all types of pumps; 2) Performing necessary maintenance on rapid sand filters, settling basins, upflow clarifiers, intake well, and clear well; 3) Performing operation and maintenance activities for the water plant disinfection process; 4) Renewing gland packing on valves, exercising valves from the fully closed to fully open position.
