About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Assistant responsible for performing clerical or technical work supporting personnel screening in the areas of fingerprinting, submission of initial investigation data/requests in support of HSPD-12, hiring actions, and CYS and youth programs, and one or more military personnel programs, operations or functions.
Duties
Utilize a variety of electronic systems comprised of hardware and software components capable of storing, retrieving, manipulating, transferring, computing, and printing information.
Performs recurring personnel transactions for voluntary and involuntary officer and enlisted separations such as release from active-duty resignations, retirements.
Conducts Strength Reporting operations including but not limited to requisitions, stabilization, Additional Skill Identifier (ASI)/Special Qualification Identifier (SQI), sponsorship, and permissive TDY.
Prepares retirement orders, associated documents, and the Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214) for review by retiring Soldiers and authenticates documents.
Performs a variety of procedural clerical and technical duties associated with services necessary for personnel screening to include fingerprinting, data input, and hard copy/mail or electronic transfer of fingerprints to appropriate agencies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
- This position requires the services of a fully qualified typist.

Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months or 6 years. Term appointments may be extended
beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves 1) analysis data to support conclusion or recommendations for military personnel actions; 2) performing clerical or technical work supporting personnel screening in the areas of fingerprinting, submission of initial investigation data/requests; 3) applying human resources regulations, standards, and policies for reports and processing of actions for military and civilian personnel.
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resources, Criminal Justice, Business Administration or Business Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
