About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It's located at the Fort Johnson Dental Health Activity Headquarters located on Fort Johnson, Louisiana. The primary purpose is to perform administrative and technical work supporting military and civilian human resources programs for the Director of Dental at the Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital. This position will be heavily involved in military personnel support and the required regulations for actions.

Duties

Processing military personnel actions, ensuring all required forms and documents are complete in accordance with regulations. Verifies and processes individual soldier action requests including Officer Candidate School (OCS) applications, Medical Retention Board (MRB), Warrant Officer (WO) applications and any school applications. Process military and civilian personnel actions, awards, and performance evaluations, ensuring compliance with established timelines. Initiate and track military and civilian personnel actions using a variety of military and Human Resources systems. Prepare required forms to ensure accuracy of record in accordance with governing policies. Assist with personnel manning, such as promotion packages, military orders, separations, and casualty operations. Assist military members updating military personnel records and other personnel matters.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Preparing required forms to ensure accuracy of record in accordance with governing policies; 2) Processing military personnel actions, such as awards, promotion packages, military orders, separations, and casualty operations; 3) Retrieving data from governing regulations or guidance to ensure completion of actions without errors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Human Resources Technology UsageManages and Organizes InformationPersonnel Action Processing and RecordkeepingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
