About the Position: This position is with the U.S Army Sustainment Command, 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Transportation Division, located in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. This position will be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 months.

Duties

Coordinate unit movements and/or distribution of freight to ensure timely shipments. Monitor the status and/or progress of freight movement. Maintain production reports and/or records of freight. Advise installation units and/or other supported satellite activities on the proper procedures for preparing shipment and related transportation matters. Recognize hazardous material by its proper shipping name, or research suspected hazardous materials according to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain appropriate Hazmat Certification Training as detailed in the Defense Transportation Regulation 4500.9-r within 6 months of entry into the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Government Driver's License.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Discussing shipments with internal and/or external agencies for movement of numerous types of commodities; and 2) Certifying and/or shipping all hazardous materials routed through an organization utilizing automated systems to effect shipments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). -OR- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. -OR- Certificate: Possession of a certificate as Certified Member, American Society of Transportation and Logistics meets the requirements for GS-5. Persons with such certificates may also qualify for higher grade levels based on their education and/or experience. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer ServiceDecision MakingTechnical CompetenceTransportation Traffic Management and Distribution Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
