Are you a nursing expert in the field of clinical research protocol development, implementation, and management in a highly specialized scientific discipline? Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is hiring for an experienced Nurse Specialist (Research) who will provide leadership and significantly contribute to all aspects of the clinical research protocol life cycle.
Duties
Developing, implementing, and managing key procedures/aspects of the protocol within the scientific scope defined.
Facilitating, coaching, and planning techniques to lead clinical research within the NICHD, Office of the Clinical Director.
Independently evaluating critical feasibility issues such as those related to patient-population availability and recruitment, availability of resources.
Coordinating and implementing clinical research protocols, including protocol development and implementation, patient recruitment, patient enrollment, data collection and organization, data analysis, safety monitoring.
Ensuring compliance with protocol requirements to maintain data integrity; and supporting ongoing research and clinical programs at NIA.

Qualifications
Basic Requirement
In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Lead Nurse Specialis (Research), GS-610-14, you must:
A. Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. Note: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
AND
B. You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)
AND
C. have a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional Requirement
In addition, in order to qualify for a Lead Nurse Specialist (Research) position at the GS-14 level, you must have at least 1 year of Clinical Nurse experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Providing leadership in comprehensive nursing, preventative, and therapeutic health care service to patients and family members; coordinating and managing patient populations within clinical research environments; coordinating, implementing (e.g., collecting research data/samples) or managing multiple clinical protocols within a research program; securing health and developmental histories; recording findings and making critical evaluations; performing or requesting special screening and developmental tests and laboratory tests and interpreting the results; discriminating between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems; making decisions concerning medical care needs of patients with physicians as well as decisions regarding nursing care needs; identifying and managing specific illnesses; giving direct specialized nursing care; delegating tasks to allied nursing personnel.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
