About the Position: This is a full-time civilian position at the U.S. Army War College (USAWC) as provided under Title 10 USC. Initial appointment will be for 6 months. The appointment may be renewed for up to two years in total. The position is structured for recently matriculated undergraduates with an interest in developing and teaching educational wargames for use in strategic-level education.
Duties
Collaborate with professional strategic game developers and faculty to design, develop and teach custom strategic games employed in graduate-level curriculum.
Collaborate with Department of Defense Officials under the supervision of Wargaming Department leadership to determine the scope and applicability of wargames as a technique for conducting research into issue of military strategic importance.
Serve as a member of a gaming team in teaching games in graduate-level education and in executing games that inform senior leader decision making.
Participate in wargames and workshops, and write and publish on matters of importance related to strategic wargaming.
Engage in internal and external service in support of institutional missions.
Support faculty in the execution of wargames.
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a travel requirement up to 20% of the time.

This is a full-time temporary appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 6 months starting on or about 31 January 2025. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 2 years in increments of 1 year or less.
Qualification Requirements:
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above, applicants will be rated on the following:
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated on the criteria listed below:
1. Recent graduate with Bachelor's Degree in a field relevant to strategic gaming is preferred.
2. Knowledge of game principles or theory.
3. Ability to develop and teach a game's fundamentals and outcomes to students.
4. Demonstrated potential to work with a team of wargamers, faculty and other leaders to conceptualize, program, test, teach, execute, and document games for use by students.
5. Active involvement in networks relevant to wargaming or gaming.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
