Do you have experience independently operating, maintaining, or repairing utilities systems such as chiller units, steam boilers and other building systems and equipment? If so please consider joining the NIH Office of Research Facilities as a Utility Systems Repairer Operator! In this position you will be responsible for performing a wide range of operations in the monitoring, maintenance, and repair of various NIH utilities systems such as air conditioning, heating, and water distribution.

Duties

As a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator, you will: Utilize comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated skill of multiple trades/crafts to perform the full range of senior journeyman tasks. Apply in-depth knowledge of utility systems to independently operate utility systems under varying load conditions. Monitor operation, and repair of multiple utility systems and associated facilities and building systems and equipment. Perform inspections, shift rounds, and preventive maintenance on utility systems and other equipment as required or directed. Demonstrate expertise in the use, handling, and maintenance of tools and equipment common to utility systems.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

You will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position. The approved job elements for this occupation are listed as follows: Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision Knowledge of equipment assembly installation, repair, etc. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of measuring instruments The ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
