This position supports the National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG), to support the local planning and organization for the host site of National Veterans Sports Programs and Special Events (NVSP&SE) Programs. The Golden Age Games is a national program that provides Veterans opportunities to engage in rehabilitative sport and recreation opportunities. The position is at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN.

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 1 year). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. Duties include but are limited to the following. Provides independent advice, counsel, guidance, assistance and operational support to the Director, Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center and Clinics, and the NVGAG Director. Serves as the primary advisor, duties require contact with all segments of the public and private sectors involved with successful planning and execution of the Games. Oversees multiple NVGAG Local Organizing Committees in consideration of issues to improve execution of the Games for participating Veterans. He/she maintains direct liaison with the highest levels of VA management locally, as well as the Medical Center Director & NVSP&SE Director. Maintains liaisons and provides coordination with other public and private agencies (to include dealing with state and locally elected officials and executives.) Develops and maintains the local community and sponsor relationships related to supporting the event. Acts as a liaison and handles the communication with persons and/or groups within and outside of the medical center. Coordinates and develops proposals and recommendations for the NVGAG in the areas of military/community collaboration, medical treatment standards, execution analysis, and orchestrates input on the diverse activities and initiatives undertaken by the LOC in planning the Games. Actively participates in interagency and interdepartmental dialogues through the national VA, all Armed Force organizations represented in Washington, and public agencies at state and local communities with respect to NVGAG execution. Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday. 8:00am-4:30pm, Weekends may be required on occasion. Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements. Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Program Specialist - Events Planner. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as providing overall coordination, planning and execution of special events; developing and maintaining the local community and sponsor relationships related to supporting events and for the overall budget of special events. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Analytical ReasoningCommunicationPlanning and EvaluatingProject ManagementStandards IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, and usually accomplished while seated at a desk, some slight physical effort may be required. The normal daily environment is sedentary although some slight physical effort may be required. As the event date approaches, irregular hours and overtime is likely to occur. The incumbent must be flexible to the demands and be able to function under pressure of extreme deadlines.
