In this position, you will provide high quality palliative care to people with serious and life-limiting illnesses, and their families within the Clinical Center, The Pain & Palliative Care Service (PPSC). The ideal candidate for this position should have advanced Hospice & Palliative Care certification and/or two years of work experience in Palliative Care and has exceptional clinical and interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated educational abilities.
Duties
Provide high quality palliative care to people with serious and life-limiting illnesses, and their families;
Develop and implement comprehensive palliative care plans tailored to each patient's and family’s needs, in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team;
Serve as teaching faculty for fellows in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, as well as fellows in other specialties, and provide education for nurses across the institution;
Lead patient care rounds and conference;
Provide appropriate patient and family counseling and education, based on the specific goals of the patient and the of the healthcare team.

- A one-year probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.
Qualifications
You meet the basic qualification requirements for this Nurse Practitioner position if you:
Possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools;
AND
Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment;
AND
Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
Additional qualification requirements for the GS-0610-13: In addition to the basic requirements above, you must have at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing comprehensive nursing care in a clinical or research setting; independently providing patient and family counseling and health education to complex patient populations; independently assessing acute and non-acute clinical problems; and collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams to ensure that patient management strategies are successful in meeting patient care and research needs.
