Duties
You will plan, research, and prepare monographs, articles, briefings, and papers that furnish historical background, data, and analysis.
You will work with the section lead and Branch leadership to determine projects and research topics.
You will analyze historical documents and investigate past events.
You will prepare analytical products on conflicts, events, and topics in U.S. naval history of lasting relevance to Navy leaders and planners.
You will provide updates on progress of historical projects to the section lead.
You will respond to naval history inquiries from executives and action officers.
You will conduct oral histories, including participating in interviews, preparing interview questions, and processing interviews.
You will perform varied duties designed to hone knowledge and skill in applying historical methodology.
You will conduct research at various records repositories and libraries.
You will establish the relative values and importance of historical facts uncovered as a result of research in order to present an objective and complete picture of the specific subject matter.
You will work as part of a larger team collaborating on assignments and integrating different approaches into one consistent and cohesive project.
Requirements

Qualifications
GS-09: In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) Assisting with researching of current and historic issues; (2) Supporting the planning, researching, preparing original studies, monographs, briefings, booklets, articles, chronologies, and other products that furnish detailed historical background and perspective; (3) Defining past events; (4) Preparing interview questions, and processing interviews; and (5) Assisting with the editing or transcribing historical documents.
GS-11: In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: (1) Researching of current and historic issues; (2) Planning, researching, preparing original studies, monographs, briefings, booklets, articles, chronologies, and other products that furnish detailed historical background and perspective; (3) Investigating and defining past events and provide analysis of these events to prepare leadership and effectively deal with problems; (4) Participating in interviews, preparing interview questions, and processing interviews; (5) Editing or transcribing historical documents; and (6) Providing interpretive and intellectual support for public outreach functions to include multimedia presentations, online features, education programs, and presentations.

Education
Basic Education Requirement: A. Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
The following can be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualification requirements of this position at the GS-09 Level:
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree.
OR
Master's degree oran equivalent graduate degree.
The following can be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualification requirements of this position at the GS-11 Level:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree.
OR
A combination of graduate education and experience totaling 100%.
