You will serve as a Supervisory Historian (Deputy Branch Head) at the NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.
Duties
You will serve as principle advisor to the Histories Branch Head on historical programs, projects, and policies.
You will lead and direct production of U.S. naval historical products.
You will assist the Histories Branch Head in supervising three supervisory historians including QA/QC'ing high-level work products.
You will plan, develop, and oversee creation of monographs, books, articles, information papers, and memoranda that provide historical background, data, and analysis relevant to current U.S. naval activities.
You will assign, track, review, and provide responses to historical inquiries from senior Navy leaders and OPNAV directorates.
You will oversee the planning and execution of oral history interviews with Navy leaders and planners.
You will maintain liaison with Navy Staff offices and other NHHC branches/divisions for the purposes of planning historical projects and delivering timely historical support.
You will assist the Histories Branch Head in evaluating performance, handling administrative taskings (pay, leave, training, and other personnel actions), and managing select Branch and section-level programs and priorities.
You will mentor junior personnel in order to develop an agile team of naval history experts, improve retention, and maintain morale.
Requirements

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Historian experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Planning, researching, and preparing historical products (e.g. studies, monographs, briefings, and booklets) that furnish detailed backgrounds and perspectives to current issues;
2) Organizing and leading historical research projects to ensure completion within established timeframes;
3) Delivering professional written responses to external and internal historical inquiries based on thorough research;
4) Communicating orally regarding historical matters (e.g. presenting briefs, participating in conferences, and exchanging professional views) to high-level colleagues and stakeholders;
5) Developing and supervising the development of written products on U.S. naval history of the highest quality that articulate, interpret, and explain highly complex material.

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
