You will serve as a Engineering Technician (Mechanical) - (Certificated Fleet Diesel Inspector) in the ENGINEERING & PLANNING DEPARTMENT, FLEET SUPPORT DIVISION of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will provide technical engineering assistance for ship Diesel Engine systems or subsystem repair or overhaul projects. You will direct diesel engine test programs and evaluations of repairs required in situations of major damage or deterioration. You will perform analysis and special studies for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance procedures or materials for assigned systems. You will perform functional checkout, grooming, adjustment and test of new or modernized Diesel Engine Systems in an operational evaluation environment. You will evaluate ship repair/overhaul or test and grooming problems to diagnose and correct deficiencies.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Incumbent must have a certification as a Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI) in accordance with OPNAVINST 9220.3.” Since the duties of the position are centered around diesel engine technical support and inspections.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a certified Diesel Engine Inspector (DEI) providing periodic and casualty inspections and assistance on diesel engines and support systems installed in Naval vessels.
