About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), Computational Science and Engineering Division (CSED). This position will be filled at a DB-05 (GS-15) in the Information Technology Laboratory as any of the below series: 0808 Architect 0810 Civil Engineer 0830 Mechanical Engineer 0854 Computer Engineer 0861 Aerospace Engineer 1310 Physics 1520 Mathematician 1550 Computer Scientist

Duties

Serves in the Computational Science and Engineering Division (CSED), Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) as the senior research and development lead. Serves as the senior advisor to the Division Chief, CSED, the Deputy Director and Director. Collaborates with the ITL Division Chiefs, Technical Directors, Center Chiefs, and researchers to develop and grow research and development programs focused on large, complex computational aerospace challenges. Facilitates highly technical and complex discussions with sponsors, stakeholders and academic and private industry to accomplish program objectives. Provides oversight related to administering, managing, analyzing and debugging massively parallel supercomputers and cluster environments. Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and fluid mechanics principles, Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM) and finite element analysis software and their application. Leads the development of novel and existing high-fidelity capabilities within the computational workflow using numerical methods and algorithms with knowledge of iterative solvers and mesh generation. Documents analysis results through the authoring or co-authoring of science and engineering technical reports, journal articles and professional society presentations. and giving client and organizational presentations for supported projects. Maintains technical proficiency in science and engineering, through interaction with technical and professional organizations, academia, contractors, and other research and development organizations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 30% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
