Duties

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), Personnel Security Division (PSD). You will serve as a technical expert in the personnel security field. This position starts at a salary of $103,409.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $134,435.00 (GS-13, Step 10) Duties: Making determinations to grant or deny authorizations based on the information provided, including, but not limited to, the type/level of investigation required Rendering adjudicative determinations on the subject's suitability or fitness for employment Conducting compliance activities/inspections of contact investigative service providers, and rendering a determination to grant/deny CBP credentials. Creating and/or documenting all actions within designated systems of records needed for pre-investigation, creating a detailed summary of information which supports the adjudicative determination, and producing a written review of quality assurance reviews thoroughly noting any specific deficiencies Providing internal adjudicative training to new employees and technical guidance to others on a specific project, task, or procedure GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Reviewing historical records and investigation documentation to render preliminary and final adjudicative determinations, and reviewing completed investigations for compliance and adequacy and requesting investigations from other federal entities; reviewing submitted requests for background credentials to ensure compliance/adequacy Processing security forms received, in conjunction with accessing agency vetting systems, ensuring that applicant's, employee's and contractor's initial background investigation, and periodic re-investigations are initiated and scheduled, in accordance with position sensitivity requirements. Contributing to written report of compliance reviews/inspections noting specific deficiencies or findings. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 11/07/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period. Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) Eligibles: If you have never worked for the federal government, you are not CTAP eligible.
