Duties

Present informal and formal talks, guided tours to all types of audiences. Respond to visitor's inquiries for information. Provides a wide range of services to visitors including assistance with lost articles, car trouble and first aid. Provides answers to recurring questions. Use multimedia (such as, audio-visual equipment, computer software) to create informational presentations or products. Performs day-to-day patrol operations to facilitate visitor understanding and enjoyment and to induce behavior that complies with park regulations. Negotiate with individuals or organizations to resolve conflicts, disputes or grievances. Perform emergency services to ill and injured visitors in a variety of settings. Assists with trip itinerary planning using the "Preventative Search and Rescue" concepts in both front country and back country. Duties may also include collecting funds, safe-guarding and reconciling funds and accountable stock. Other duties based on Park/Location: DINO - Maybell, CO: Park Ranger (General), GS-0025-5 - Duties listed above. CHCU - Nageezi, NM: Park Ranger (General), GS-0025-5 - Monitors routine film and special park use permits for compliance. Organizes campground reservations and leads the scheduling and display of activities for campground hosts. Assists in visitor orientation, education and safety at the campground. BRCA - Bryce Canyon, UT: Park Ranger (General), GS-0025-5 - Serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services. Provides medical treatment - Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification or higher certification is required. This certificate must be accredited by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) This is a drug tested position. CANY - Hanksville, UT: Park Ranger (Backcountry), GS-0025-5 - Serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services and issues backcountry use permits in accordance with the park's management plan and assists with and participates in fee collection activities. Operates vehicles and equipment used in general park operations such as full size 4x4/4WD patrols. This position has a split season - EOD: March to June AND late August to late November. This is a drug tested position. CANY - Moab, UT: Park Ranger (Backcountry), GS-0025-5 - one (1) position - Issues backcountry use permits in accordance with the park's management plan and participates in fee collection activities. Provides medical treatment - CPR / First Aid AED Certificate is required. This is a drug tested position. Park Ranger (Backcountry), GS-0025-5 - Serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services and issues backcountry use permits in accordance with the park's management plan. Some position(s) may assist with field-based permit compliance and education to river users via boats in backcountry. Provides medical treatment - CPR / First Aid AED Certificate is required. This is a drug tested position. CANY - Monticello, UT: Park Ranger (Backcountry), GS-0025-5 - Serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services and issues backcountry use permits in accordance with the park's management plan. Some position(s) may assist with field-based permit compliance and education to river users via boats in backcountry. Provides medical treatment - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification or higher certification is required. This is a drug tested position. ARCH - Moab, UT: Park Ranger (Backcountry), GS-0025-5 - Issues backcountry use permits in accordance with the park's management plan and participates in fee collection activities. This is a drug tested position. GLCA - San Juan County, UT, Escalante, UT and Page, AZ: Park Ranger (General), GS-0025-5 - Position may require the Operation of a Small Watercraft and serves as a member of an in-Park Incident Management Team to be called upon to provide emergency services. Issues backcountry use permits in accordance with the park's management plan, conducts interpretive programs and demonstrations, completes work using available computer software programs, provides emergency medical treatment to visitors and employees, assists in maintaining the first aid equipment and supplies used in a district/sub-district of the park, monitors routine film and special park use permits, and as an occasional duty, the ranger performs tasks associated with the operations of front-line information center. This is a drug tested position.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/14/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: This experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park related work. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, Park Guide or tour leader; environmental educator or teacher; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; or other similar work . You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four (4) years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field. (Related fields of study include natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.). You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special prior­ity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
