As an Engineering Technician with the Aerostructures Branch at Armstrong Flight Research Center's Flight Loads Lab, you will be responsible for supporting, developing, and maintaining the mechanical, electrical, and control systems used for aerostructures testing. You will collaborate with a team of highly skilled engineers and technicians, working on aerospace systems and structures in support of both NASA and national missions.

Duties

Perform professional technical duties related to operational support, modification, updating, testing, checkout, and design of complete mechanical and electrical systems or parts of systems. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, inspect, and analyze physical conditions of equipment, components, and facilities to ensure reliable, operational condition. Fabricate, install, modify, repair, and maintain equipment, components, and facilities to include fixtures for mechanical and thermal tests as well as electrical control systems used in the lab. Develop and implement practical processes for the fabrication and use of facilities, new technology, or equipment for NASA projects. Develop test plans, document test processes/procedures, evaluate test results, and makes necessary design adjustments to achieve desired results. Design and develop experimental research instruments, devices, system components, or facilities for projects. Design and document novel test procedures, evaluate results, and make necessary design adjustments to achieve an operational facility. Prepare engineering evaluation of control equipment such as prototypes of experimental hardware conceived to support ongoing lab requirements. Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service: Assisting with testing or troubleshooting electrical/mechanical systems using a variety of diagnostic tools or techniques (e.g., analyzing data to identify system faults, resolving issues on-site, applying corrective measures to ensure system integrity, etc.); Participating in system testing and maintenance activities throughout the product lifecycle (i.e., from initial design to testing, integration, and maintenance); Collaborating in a team environment to address challenges and ensure functionality of mechanical or electrical systems.
