NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as Crew Chief, responsible for the overall airworthiness of assigned research or science aircraft/vehicle. You will ensure all requirements for maintenance, inspections, modifications, documentation, and a safe working environment are accomplished following all applicable procedures and processes.
Duties
Develops and implements practical processes for the fabrication and use of aircraft, new technology, or equipment for NASA projects.
Plans, develops, and constructs modifications and upgrades to components.
Documents, studies, and analyzes all observed characteristics of aircraft, technology, or equipment.
Participates in the development of test plans, documents test processes/procedures, evaluates test results, and makes necessary design adjustments to achieve desired results.
Designs and develops experimental research instruments, devices, system components for projects.
Collaborates with project engineers to determine the methods and techniques that will yield valid test results, and establishes procedures and sequences necessary to conduct tests.
Evaluates mechanical designs and serves as an adviser to engineers and project managers, giving expert advice relative to design for manufacturability.
Provides technical leadership regarding investigations, troubleshooting, and issue resolution activities and advises management and aircraft maintenance staff of technical aircraft maintenance issues.
Provides technical guidance, direction, or training to aircraft technicians.
Requirements

- Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
- This position requires the selectee have the following current License and/or Certification: Airframe and Powerplant Licenses with in 24 months or equivalent.
- This position requires the selectee to have successfully completed a Equipment operator.
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service
Fabricating, modifying, or repairing engineering equipment, components, test articles, or aircraft;
Supporting the development of engineering testing, such as defining test parameters, requirements, design, adequacy of facilities, availability of instrumentation, safety issues involved, or time available;
Analyzing and documenting test processes, observable characteristics, and results;
Providing technical guidance on safety, aircraft maintenance, or training.
