This position serves as the Deputy Chief of the Department and serves as the alter ego to the Chief and fully shares in the direction of the department's program, work and staff and as the principal advisor of the Chief. The incumbent also performs complex technical duties as a Social Worker and Clinical Researcher.
Duties
Planning, developing, coordinating, managing and evaluating the programs of the Department including the language interpretation and program staffs.
Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating several unique and complex programs for social work services.
Developing social work techniques including screening and assessment tools, treatment and discharge planning techniques, and experimental or standard interventions.
Providing direct social work practice in cases with complex medical and social issues to include micro and macro interventions on behalf of research subjects and the wider NIH organization.
Collaborating with clinical investigators and allied personnel in the planning and conduct of specific studies of the causes, prevention, and treatment of various diseases.
Completing psychosocial assessments of patients and families in order to identify those factors which have a bearing on his/her illness and recovery and his/her ability to cope with stress and the requirements of the research protocols.
Managing resources allocated to the Department including identifying and justifying needs for additional resources or redeploying resources in new ways to meet the needs of the Department and the mission and objectives of the Clinical Center.
Requirements

Qualifications
Basic Requirement
You must have a Master's Degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Additional Requirements
In addition, in order to qualify for a Supervisory Social Worker-GS-0185, at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: Planning, developing, coordinating, managing and evaluating the Social Work programs of a Department including the language interpretation and program staffs; collaborating with clinical investigators and allied personnel in planning and conducting specific studies of the causes, prevention, and treatment of various diseases; developing and implementing various professional educational programs for medical and allied personnel on the psychosocial and economic aspects of illness; interpreting problems and behavioral patterns and making recommendations regarding the ability of patients to participate in research protocols; and serving as a liaison and referral source for services such as education, recreational therapy, spiritual ministry, and psychological/psychiatric consultation.

You must possess an active, current registration as an independent, clinical Licensed Social Worker or equivalent level of licensure (i.e., LCSW, LICSW, CIPSW, etc.) from a licensing board in the United States including the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
