An ideal candidate will have experience providing clinical social work care in a medical setting, and teaching clinical social work concepts to a variety of adult learners; undergraduate students, graduate students, junior social work practitioners, and senior, licensed clinical social work staff. They will be grounded in basic biomedical research concepts and methodologies, and skilled at communicating the role clinical social workers play in supporting research subjects in a medical setting.
Duties
Providing supervisory leadership and direction to subordinate professional Social Workers with full authority to oversee the daily activities of these employees from both the personnel and technical direction perspectives.
Communicating with community agencies regarding the needs of the patient and his/her caregivers, and arrange for the needed services they can provide.
Completing psychosocial assessment of patients and caregivers in order to identify those factors which have a bearing on his/her ability to cope with stress and the requirements of the research protocols.
Reviewing newly proposed protocols for impact on Social Work Department resources and makes recommendations to Principal Investigators related to the same.
Collaborating with clinical investigators and allied personnel in the planning and conduct of specific studies of the causes, prevention, and treatment of various diseases.
Assessing financial needs of patient and family during hospital stay and determines resources to be allotted for assistance, consistent with the goal of maximizing adjustment to research protocols.
Requirements

Qualifications
Basic Requirement
In order to qualify for a Social Worker, GS-0185 position, you must meet the following Basic Education Requirement: You must have a Master's Degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Additional Requirements:
In addition, in order to qualify for a Supervisory Social Worker-GS-0185, at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: Providing administrative and technical oversight of the day to day operations performed by a social work staff; conducting psychosocial assessments of mentally or medically ill patients and families in the healthcare setting and making recommendations regarding their ability to participate in research protocols; developing a treatment plan for seriously ill clients based on an assessment of psychological, social and medical realities; evaluating social work policies and programs and make recommendations for modifications; and developing educational programs for medical and allied personnel on the psychosocial and economic aspects of illness.

You must possess an active, current registration as an independent, clinical Licensed Social Worker or equivalent level of licensure (i.e., LCSW, LICSW, CIPSW, etc.) from a licensing board in the United States including the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
