This position has been established to provide Safety and Industrial Hygiene with assistant and clerical Program Support and support work with regard for the technical aspect of the programs. The Central Texas Veteran Health Care System (CTVHCS), in Temple, TX includes campuses in Waco, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Austin, Brownwood, Bryan/College Station, Cedar Park and Palestine, TX.
Duties
The Safety and Industrial Hygiene Program Support Assistant performs work under general supervision, able to exercise independent judgment to accomplish tasks of considerable difficulty and responsibility along with special technical duties, requiring specialized knowledge of methods and procedures for Safety and Industrial Hygiene to carry out its policies, directives and administrative programs. Incumbent is responsible for all administrative processes, requiring the skills of a qualified typist, uses independent judgment and study with specialized and complex subject matters, handling the coordination, collection and validation of data for a wide range of comprehensive functions, developing and implementing the programs in accordance with (IAW) VHA and HCS policy and guidance for Safety and Industrial Hygiene, GEMS and Emergency Management Programs. The Program Support Assistant is further responsible for ensuring that the administrative work in the service meets the requirements of the HCS policies, adhering to suspense coordination timelines, posting and maintaining accurate timekeeping records for Safety staff, taking minutes for numerous committees, functioning as the Primary ADPAC for the section in support computer practices, logging and identifying malfunctions, tracking and documenting education and staff training, monitoring and ordering office and operating supplies to ensure a basic level of inventory is kept on hand, and other duties as assigned by the Chief, Safety and Industrial Hygiene. The Program Support Assistant is the central point of contact for the section, maintaining current phone and/or radio or cell phone numbers, calendars for two conference rooms, schedules, time cards and locations of Safety staff were it necessary to notify them of a planned or unplanned event requiring their expertise. Incumbent must utilize specialized experience, skills and knowledge to perform all work of considerable difficulty in a safe and prudent manner so as not to injure oneself or other employees. The incumbent acts under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief, Safety and Industrial Hygiene.
Work Schedule: Nine 9 hour days and one 8 hour in a two week pay period Monday-Friday (Starting at 0800 daily)

Qualifications

Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performing a wide variety of administrative duties to support the work performed within an organization; Composing and editing letters, correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other forms of written communication; reviewing correspondence and reports for omissions and inconsistencies ensuring information is complete and accurate; Creating tracking systems for suspense's proficiencies, projects and leave for employees; Collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of an organization's operation; Utilizing a variety of software and programs to accomplish work such as email, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing; Scheduling appointments, meetings, and conferences making all administrative arrangements as required and generating minutes of meetings chaired by the service line; Screening telephone calls and requests, forwarding to the appropriate contact for timely resolution..

Physical Requirements: The work is in a sedentary environment, to multiple clinic venues, and multi-faceted inventory and inspection locations and includes walking, bending, and carrying of light to medium items.
