Duties

Instructs Cadets and assigned support personnel in the theory and practice of safe and competitive parachuting. Serves as first-line supervisor of subordinates and provides a full range of supervisory functions to include performance management, employee relations, employee recognition, dispute resolution, training and development. Recommends appointment of Cadets for team and conducts initial and/or recertification testing. Conducts initial training and certifies qualification of new personnel in accordance with the FAA and the United States Parachute Association regulations. Prepares and develops instructional material for Cadets in the fundamentals of parachute inspection, repair, and assembly of all assigned parachute systems including ram air main canopies, harnesses, flags, streamers, tandem equipment and altimeters. Oversees procurement, inventory, storage, care, maintenance, accountability, and utilization of supplies and equipment. Provides recommendations to OICs for additional resources when needed.

Requirements

  • This is an Army Drug Testing position; the incumbent must sign a DA Form 5019-R as a condition of employment and shall be subject to periodic and random urinalysis drug testing in accordance with AR 215-3 and EO 12564.
  • Must be able to continually stand, walk, stoop, reach, pull, push, and bend. Must be able to lift of move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule which may include nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and/or overtime in support of academic and cyclic training schedules.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors during different types of weather conditions ranging from hot and/or humid to extreme sub-freezing temperature.
  • Incumbent will also be exposed to high noise levels, chemicals, and high pressurized gases with explosive potential.
  • Must be able to perform instruction on board military and civilian aircraft during airborne operations up to altitudes of 15,000 feet mean sea level (MSL).
  • This position requires frequent travel for competitions, training, to locations on and off post.
  • Must possess and maintain a state issued driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to obtain within six months of employment USPA Pro, FAA Master Parachute Rigger, Accelerated Free Fall Instructor and Evaluator, Coach and Safety Training and Advisor (STA) certifications. Must maintain all required certifications.
  • Satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks IAW AR 215-3, para 2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation and medical examination which may include a FAA Class 3 Flight Physical.

Qualifications

Three (3) years' experience instructing students in the proper use of equipment, principles, practices, and instruction of parachuting such as how to inspect and don chutes, perform on-ground and emergency in-air chute repair, and the proper assembly of all chute components. AND Must possess current FAA Senior Parachute Rigger, Accelerated Free Fall Instructor, and Tandem Instructor certifications. This experience and certification must be reflected on your resume and supporting documentation must be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position. HIGHLY PREFERRED: - Experience organizing, directing, and managing a collegiate parachute team, or equivalent program. AND - Completion of 1000 jumps and the basic IBA static progression certification for vertical wind tunnels. The experience/certification must be reflected on your resume and your certification uploaded at the time of application to be considered a highly preferred candidate.
