About the Position: Serves as a Industrial Hygiene Technician performing duties in support of the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and its geographic area of responsibility.

Duties
Enter data collected from surveys or air samples into Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Reporting System (DOEHRS-IH) database.
Make recommendations on control measures and changes in work procedures or schedules to comply with established standards.
Provide worker training on respirator selection, usage, care; and sanitation practices; and chemical health hazards in the work place as required.
Perform sampling using standard methods to establish the nature and degree of hazards, and industrial products
Collects air samples for as determined by building Inspections or special projects.
Requirements
- 1. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- 2. Tier 3 Position (Secret): Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- 5. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- 6. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- 7. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- 8. A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- 9. Immunization screening is required. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- 13. Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- 16. Incumbent will be required to wear/use safety and personal protective equipment and clothing.
- 20. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 25 pounds is required.

Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying potential health hazards; ensuring compliance with established occupational safety and health regulations; and utilizing automated systems to prepare a variety of technical reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes providing information to employees on safety or occupational health subjects; collecting/monitoring exposure data to assess work practices and environmental conditions; and monitoring exposure data to assess environmental conditions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting inspections and preparing reports using automated systems; evaluating potential health hazards to recommend mitigating courses of action; and training employees in safety or occupational health subjects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
GS-09: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.(GS-08).

Education
