This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position:This position is located at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Rucker is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville.
Duties
Respond on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injuries and illnesses, and sometimes encounter situations which may be life threatening.
Assess the patient's condition and select from a variety of prescribed protocols, as appropriate; proceed to provide the treatment as prescribed in the protocol.
Prioritize treatments for patient having multiple problems and employ a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods, and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
Conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and search for medical alert symbols.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires rotating schedules, shift work, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain an Alabama Board of Emergency Medical Services Paramedic license within three (3) month of entrance on duty.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain annual Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification either through a PALS class or through bi-annual NRP (National Registry Paramedic) refresher class.
- This position requires the incumbent to be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P) by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses, conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, initiating intravenous (IV) therapy, and/or operating a patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Licensure/Certification: (1) Alabama State of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) license; (2) National Registry Paramedic certification (NREMT-P); (3) Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from the American Red Cross Certification; (4) Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification.
