As a Senior Financial Economist (Economic Expert), you will be responsible for conducting and managing activities involving the application of economic research and analysis to a wide range of public regulatory policy issues that affect the performance and competition in financial markets.
This position is located in Supervisory & Risk Analysis, Economic & Policy Analysis in Washington, DC.
Duties
As a Senior Financial Economist (Economic Expert), you will:
Initiates, conducts and manages the formulation, development, coordination, and implementation of analysis of global banking and economic developments.
Produces final research summarized in briefings memos, presentations, and/or research papers using innovative methods of
analysis.
Applies international economic theories and principles to develop statistical, financial, and empirical methodologies, tools, and techniques to identify systemic risks to the US banking system from foreign economies, foreign banking systems, and global
financial markets.
Maintains active partnerships with domestic and foreign bank supervisors, governmental officials, market analysts, research organizations, and other external parties to form and maintain a current perspective on developments in important
economic/financial issues, banking laws and regulations.
Provides expert advice and keeps senior OCC management informed on a wide variety of domestic and international economic,
financial and bank supervision and risk matters including those responding to statutory and regulatory requirements.
Conduct and review analysis of risks to the U.S. banking system from exposure to foreign economies, including examining country risks and developing stress scenarios.
.Analyze, evaluate, and make connections across multiple sets of complex economic and financial information to identify and assesses risk factors to develop new insights with respect to foreign country/regional economies, international credit, and associated banking
system risks.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Degree: Economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Examples of qualifying experience include: a) individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; b) supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or c) teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
AND
In addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENTS above, you must meet and/or possess the specialized experience. You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service. To qualify for the NB-VI.2 level, you must have specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level, NB-V. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience leading international analysis activities assessing the global banking and financial industry.
AND
Experience advising management on banking and international economic analysis projects.
The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
