About the Position: This is a Sewing Machine Operator, WG-3111-04 position located in the Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Duties
Performs duties involving sizing, fitting, altering and issuing personnel clothing items on a clothing issue line utilizing the total spectrum of tariff-size garments to fit new soldiers meeting the Army's approved concept of fit.
Involves sewing machine operations which require dexterity, frequent alignments and preciseness in techniques.
Directly responsible for issue of military clothing to authorized customers in authorized quantities only.
Perform alteration work to lined skirts, trousers, slacks, shirts, coats or caps according to markings and alteration tag instructions.
Position and attaching name plates and patches according to regulation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Sewing Machine Operator~ without more than normal supervision. You must have the ability to operate a sewing machine to make alterations and attach patches to garments. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently required to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Occasionally required to lift and carry heavier, bulkier items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Usually works in shops or other enclosed areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated and heated. Work may be dirty, dusty and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises and noise from sewing machines. Is also subject to strains and injury from lifting and handling heavy stock.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
