About the Position: This position is located with the Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, bordering Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2-hour drive east and Springfield is a 1-hour drive west of Fort Leonard Wood.

Duties

Establish deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by superiors. Serve as Lead over the Sewing Machine Operators assigned to the Clothing Initial Issue Point, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations. Coordinate work with supporting or related work unit controlled by CIIP Supervisor or Manager. Inform higher level of the need to revise work schedules and other resource needs. Reassign personnel and coordinates work among the work force to maintain progress and to meet schedules. Investigate work-related problems such as low productivity and determines causes. Perform other nonsupervisory duties related to a sewing machine operator. Investigate grievances and complaints, resolves them informally and notifies superiors of those of a serious nature.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

I have the ability to perform common Sewing Machine Operator Leader duties such as: 1) assigning tasks to be performed by workers and 2) measuring, marking and cutting/trimming materials using a sewing machine. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Ability to Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsMeasurement and LayoutTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stands at work tables to measure, mark, and cut/trim materials. Sits for long periods while operating sewing machine or doing hand sewing. Uses arms, hands, and fingers for pulling and positioning materials, sewing, and using tools such as shears. Lifts bundles containing 10 to 12 garments worth of sub-components in lesser stages of assembly that can weigh as much as 20 pounds. Often handles pieces of fabric or articles of clothing that are consistently heavy and bulky. Stands for long periods performing garment fittings. Often does considerable stooping and bending. Pushes loaded and empty material handling equipment between operation locations. within the MOG room. WORKING CONDITIONS: Shop is an industrial site adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, scratches, and other minor injuries or irritations from handling sharp tools. Also subject to allergies from dyes, dust, and lint from fabrics. Incumbent is subject to noise from sewing machines and related apparel manufacturing equipment. When working in the pressing room, incumbent is subject to conditions of higher temperatures, steam, and radiant heat associated with any apparel manufacturing press shop.
