The purpose of this position is to serve as the Customer Service, Work Order Clerk in the Engineering Service. This position provides primary administrative support to the varying sections under Engineering (i.e., Projects, Biomedical Engineering, Maintenance & Repair, Safety, Emergency Management, Interior Design, Transportation, Capital Asset Plan Execution, and all Engineering Outpatient Clinic functions).
Duties
Functons independently once tasks have been assigned. Prioritizes, organizes and collects data for filing.
Uses Microsoft Outlook extensively for communicating with contractors, colleagues and other VA Staff.
Maintains adequate records for purchasing using credit card and the associated 2237's, adhere to the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and provide budget updates to immediate
Prioritize and assign work orders to the appropriate Engineering Shops through the current work order system.
Maintains records for timekeeping, overtime/compensatory time, posts time daily and completes necessary corrections to timecards.
Coordinates information with the appropriate shop within Engineering for customer needs.
Performs computer operations with skill and knowledge. Executes, stores and retrieves documents from different systems.
Updates the key database with current/accurate information when distributing or collecting assigned keys.
Receives and monitors phone calls from various staff members while collecting accurate information.
Clears staff when separating from station using performance system.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday Tour of Duty will be either 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/12/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience with government purchasing
Experience managing mutiple fund control points
Experience with timekeeping
Knowledge of federal Acquistion Regulation
OR
Education:"Successfully completed four (4) years of education above high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is a pre-requisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university. Note: Transcripts are required."

Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below
Proficiency Requirement - Applicants for this position must show possession of the following skill: 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet these requirements by self-certifying their proficiency. You should be aware your self-certification of possession of this skill is subject to evaluation and verification.

Physical Requirements: The work is normally sedentary, but includes some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
