The purpose of this position is to provide support for the Veteran Transportation Program (VTP) and reports directly to the Mobility Manager. This position is a Supervisory Transportation Assistant for the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS) and will be the general Supervisor of the Veterans Transportation Service (VTS), Motor Vehicle Operators and Transportation Assistants.
Duties
Independently plan, direct, and manage the Medical Center's VTS program. The VTS program provides transportation at Government expense to over Veterans and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places monthly, for the purpose of examination, treatment, and care.
Assist to develop, adapt, and implement policies and plans to support the mission of the VTP. Promotes the enhancement and facilitation of access to transportation services, including the integration and coordination of services. The focus is on the movement of people rather than vehicles and on the entire trip, not just one mode or another.
Provides direct supervision to a minimum of 11 employees: 2 Transportation Assistant GS-2102-06, and 4 Transportation Assistant GS-2102-05. Provides daily supervision and guidance. Performs the administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff support.
Familiar with timekeeping procedures, both manual and electronic and pay regulations for Title 5 employees. The Selectee must be able to identify, analyze and resolve time keeping and special pay issues that arise. Assure administrative support and clerical assistance to employees regarding leave, training, and personal issues.
Communicates and interacts with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. Meets the needs of customers while supporting the Medical Center and Service missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Establishing criteria to measure and/or predict the attainment of program or organizational goals and objectives. Work includes developing related administrative regulations, such as those governing the allocation and distribution of personnel, supplies, equipment, and other resources, or promulgating program guidance for application across organizational lines or in varied geographic locations, i.e., the community- based outreach clinics, which are located at sites other than the medical center.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday- 8:00am-4:30pm; subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/06/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Providing daily oversight to support in customer service and processing operation.
Researching, reviewing, and processing documents, may include legal documents, billing information, medical records, or administrative records for completeness and accuracy.
Utilizing electronic systems to gather, review, input, update, access, organize, process, and to maintain information for use in litigation and/or to accomplish time or case management functions.
Providing research-based customer service in a healthcare environment.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. There may be some walking; standing; bending; and carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts. Selectee may be susceptible to eyestrain from working long hours on the computer.
