Duties
You will respond to emergency spills (e.g., oil) to implement immediate corrective action of abandoned hazardous waste or environmental violations.
You will serve as the focal point for environmental information programs (e.g., industrial hazardous waste management, disposal, spill prevention, recovery) to provide guidance within a facility
You will Lead a hazardous material management program to determine material handling is safe, environmentally-friendly, and regulatory-compliant.
Requirements

- You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes when making site visits, as determined by site conditions and applicable safety regulations.
- This position may require travel, 25% or less, from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Applying solid waste management knowledge to identify opportunities to reduce or eliminate the generation of wastes; 2) Troubleshoot environmental problems concerning Industrial Waste and Solid Waste management; 3) Analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations.

Training Requirements: If not already obtained, must be able to successfully complete the following training courses within prescribed timeframes:
40 hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910 HAZWOPER - required before employee can do any field work.
DOT Hazardous Material Training (49CFR 172.704) - within 90 days of position assignment.
RCRA/Hazardous Waste Management (40 CFR 262.17(a)(7) - within 6 months of position assignment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
