The Center for Strategy and Technology seeks a Professor of Strategy, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship. This role involves developing graduate curricula and teaching military competition/strategy for the USAF Chief of Staff Fellowship. Responsibilities include handling classified material, funded travel, project advising, and researching geo-political/strategic competition, focusing on USAF concepts, investments, and missions for influence, deterrence, and crisis stability.

Duties

Teaches CSAT Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CSAF) Blue Horizons Fellowship on future strategic and military-technical competitions and their implications on future innovation of Department of the Air Force (DAF) capabilities, investments and acquisitions strategy. Oversees thorough planning and development of curriculum content and structure, instructional methods and materials, and evaluation and testing procedures for curricula presented. Develops a systematic, prioritized approach for continuing education and professional opportunities on the topic of the interplay of strategy and technology and future conflict. Contributes to faculty development programs on future conflict studies and emerging technological and strategic environments. Shares academic development workload with other CSAT faculty to ensure timely accomplishment of all required projects. Supervises and advises Blue Horizon Fellow research in course work; 12-15 fellows per cohort, one cohort per academic year. Provides detailed feedback, guidance and documentation of Fellows' progression. Researches DAF air, space and cyberspace concepts of operation, strategic and operational environments, doctrine and employment to: 1) teach CSAT courses, 2) write papers and briefings supporting Blue Horizons projects, 3) present study results to military, civic and academic groups, 4) brief senior Air Force leaders, 5) advise Fellows in conceptual and technical prototyping, and 6) perform additional tasking as directed by the CSAT Director. Conducts complex, scholarly research and analyses supporting the CSAT mission. Evaluates and presents divergent professional opinions affecting significant national and international defense security issues, and long and short-range studies related to USAF strategic planning. Responds to requests for research products and support from the CSAF; incorporates results of completed studies into Air University's related academic programs. When tasked, presents the results of studies to the CSAF, DAF, and other organizations and senior leaders. Publishes work in peer reviewed journals and other scholarly outlets, including CSAT papers, monographs, and books. Engages in professional research and writing in areas of expertise. Actively seeks publication of book manuscripts, as well as scholarly works such as articles, monographs, and book reviews for publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, professional journals and other outlets or classified forums. Presents results of research at classified and unclassified level during conferences, symposia, and to DoD staff and think-tanks as required. Leverages professional development opportunities with other professional military education schools, private industry, AF/DoD institutions, and academia. Delivers lectures, conducts seminars, facilitates tabletop wargames, participates in panel discussions related to AU curriculum in various professional venues. Maintains academic currency by consistently reviewing professional literature, reviewing classified sources, and participating in professional associations. Establishes and maintains relationships with academic and professional colleagues internal and external to Air University in the furtherance of the CSAT mission. Develops and maintains relationships with other Department of Defense organizations, civilian educational institutions, and commercial concerns interested in partnering with CSAT on aspects of their programs. Provides organizational, academic, and subject matter expertise, and project support (including papers, briefings, leading workshops and generating reports) to internal and external symposia and conferences. Shapes future policy and investments of the DAF. Leverages significant travel funding to integrate with diverse teams of DAF officers to contribute to curriculum and research that advances the cutting edge of policy and technology for future conflicts. Members will be expected to build and leverage a network in both the academic and policy community to enhance the mission of CSAT and the overall DAF.

Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to teach and work effectively with graduate-level Fellows and faculty. Develop curriculum and present materials for intermediate and senior professional military education, along with leading peer review of courseware and materials. Effective written and oral communication with diverse audiences. Ability to effectively assess, mentor and motivate Fellows through the challenges of bureaucratic organizations such as the USAF. Broad knowledge and wide range of experience in leadership and organizational principles, group dynamics, team building, interpersonal and group problem-solving skills, creative and critical thinking, advocacy/negotiation and technology applications that enable entrepreneurship and innovation. Broad knowledge of global environment, innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurship and strategy. Highly desired to possess a broad knowledge of both military and academic cultures, military thought and theory, military history, organization, capabilities, and limitations of armed forces. Knowledge of research methods and the conduct of research in areas related to areas of national security concerns. Highly desired to possess skills in navigating and using SIPRnet and JWICS for research, interaction, presentations, blogging and publications. Incumbent must possess a PhD in a field relevant to advanced technology, strategy, resource management, business, policy, political science, innovation, entrepreneurship, manufacturing, critical thinking, or design-additional degree fields not listed herein may be considered.
