You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY & HEALTH OFFICE of SUPSHIP.

GS-09: $60,808 - $79,050
GS-11: $73,572 - $95,641
Duties
You will review and interpret existing and new Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations and policies to determine their applicability to SUPSHIPNN and Ships Force Operations.
You will establish the SUPSHIPNN Fire Safety surveillance program for assigned contracts.
You will co-chair the SUPSHIPNN Safety Subcommittee and participate as a member on the SUPSHIPNN OSH Council.
You will provide input to proposed local or higher authority OSH regulations, policies, and beneficial suggestions, primarily in terms of their effectiveness in reducing/controlling employee health hazards.
You will assist the ESH Manager in the research and resolution of occupational health problems assigned by higher authority or recognized locally.
You will assist in the development of surveillance criteria and audit plans and in conducting of periodic audits to determine the effectiveness of SUPSHIPNN, Ships Force, and the contractor’s OSH program.
You will routinely interact with contractor qualified Fire Safety Managers and Fire Safety Officers and provide oversight to their work products and programs.
You will maintain fire prevention plans for vessels, as well as for SUPSHIPNN facilities including currency of fire marshals and fire wardens.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
FOR GS-11 GRADE LEVEL: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Coordinating or performing fire safety inspections, safety and occupational health inspections, occupational health surveys, or field audits to gather information on current fire safety practices to reduce or eliminate employee exposure to health hazards.
FOR GS-09 GRADE LEVEL: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with fire safety inspections, safety and occupational health inspections, reviews or field audits to reduce or eliminate employee exposure to health hazards.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
FOR GS-11 GRADE LEVEL ONLY:
- Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology; OR
- Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology; OR
- Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled; OR

- Successful completion a master's or equivalent graduate degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology; OR
- Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology; OR
- Obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled; OR
- Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
