You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL, SAFETY, AND HEALTH OFFICE of SUPSHIP.

Duties

You will analyze data and the development of recommendations for reduction/elimination of employee exposure to health hazards as well as providing input. You will review and interpret existing and new regulations and policies to determine their applicability. You will prepare or direct the preparation of emergency plans for actual or potential accidents involving employee safety and health hazards. You will direct and issue the development of local instructions for control of safety and health hazardous materials/process with the goal of reducing or eliminating employee exposure to such hazards. You will ensure employee safety and health and maintain personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations. You will investigate and analyze a variety of shore/shipboard problems, develop procedures and programs, and assess program effectiveness. You will work with frequent exposure to situations involving substances, which are potentially hazardous the employee's safety or health. You will contact with a variety of occupational health specialists within Department of Defense and in other Federal and private agencies. You will write summaries and prepare summary documentation related to safety and occupational health.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying safety and occupational health standards to control or eliminate workplace hazards for the safety and health of employees.
