The selectee serves as the Administrative Officer to the Chief of Social Work Service and participates in the overall administrative and operational management decision making, policy development and resource utilization of the department. The Social Work Service at the Miami Healthcare System is dedicated to providing healthcare in an environment that is patient-centric, integrated across the continuum of care, and promotes excellence in quality and patient safety.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Regularly meets with staff and stakeholders to discuss problems and/or plan future inpatient and outpatient Social Work Service programs, projects, and improvements.
Supervises the administrative functions associated with services in a clinical or medical organization.
Oversees staff involved in preparing educational proposals, agreements, correspondence, and compilation of reports.
Provides leadership and program coordination in the development, implementation, evaluation, interpretation, revision, and necessary corrective action of all applicable administrative policies, functions, activities, operations and programs for Social Work Service care.
Works directly with employees of all skill levels including physicians, nurses, mid-level providers, social workers, clerical staff, as well as working closely with Human Resources, Logistics, Fiscal, and Information Management Services.
Collaborates with employees of Social Work Service to include physicians, nurses, mid-level providers, social workers, clerical staff, etc.,
Communicates with four university department chairpersons (FSU, FIU, FAU and Barry University) and their administrators in the administration, organization, planning and evaluation of intern programs.
Acts as a primary liaison with critical persons and groups both inside and outside of the organization, speaking for the principal on complex program issues.
Ensures that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, and work plans.
Manages the Social Work Service patient advocacy program, focusing on handling Veterans' complaints and needs at the administrative level.
Provides the veterans with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/04/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Preferred experience: Previous Supervisory experience, previous Administrative Officer or Health System Specialist experience, clinic management, credentialing and privileging experience.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: supervising administrative staff, conducting regular meetings with staff and stakeholders to discuss process improvement and plan future projects, receiving and resolving grievances, preparing proposals and reports, providing leadership and program coordination in the development, implementation, evaluation, interpretation, revision, and necessary corrective action of all applicable administrative policies, functions, activities, operations and programs, acts as primary liaison with critical persons and groups both inside and outside of the organization, speaking for the principal on complex program issues, etc.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, due to the multiple locations of the Social Work Service work being performed, a significant amount of walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small pans or equipment may be required at times. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
