About the Position: Serves as Administrative Officer for the Office of the Military Deputy Commander (MDC) one of eleven Geographic/Functional Combatant, U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), located in Miami, Florida.
Duties
Serves as Administrative Officer for the Office of the Military Deputy Commander (MDC) one of eleven Geographic/Functional Combatant, U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM).
Serves as Administrative Officer to the MDC, concentrating on matters of direct and substantial interest and concern to the Office of the Military Deputy Commander (MDC).
May work directly with the Commander's Action Group, with media and occasionally with selected Congressional committee and subcommittee members and staff.
Incumbent reviews and initiates all new policy, procedures, and practices to integrate responsibilities of the Command.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience working directly with the Commander's Action Group, with media and occasionally with selected Congressional committee and subcommittee members and staff. Experience reviewing and initiating all new policy, procedures, and practices to integrate responsibilities of the Command. Experience planning, developing, coordinating, advising on, and directing special activities and program areas. This may involve high-level interaction with officials in federal, state, and local government agencies, private industry, foreign government representatives, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the White House. Experience securing Congressional understanding and cooperation on controversial matters. Experience evaluating the political environment (attitudes, current information, goals and objectives, etc.) and plan courses of action to maximize the likelihood that Command program requirements are consistent with policy and favorably received by the public. Experience keeping leadership informed on the implications of intergovernmental and political issues, many of which are controversial, and recommends appropriate action to be taken. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
