Duties

You will repair and replace electrical outlets, light switches, and light fixtures. You will remove and replace kitchen sinks, faucets, garbage disposal units, and toilet fixtures by removing, cleaning, replacing, and sealing defective parts, or by installing new fixtures and components. You will route and place piping leading to newly installed or reinstalled components and fixtures, ensuring that all elements are properly seated, connected, and tested. You will perform routine maintenance, repair, and replacement of standard locking and closure devices. You will perform basic carpentry repairs, including screens, stair treads, window and door frames, doors, molding and trim, facia, and siding.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state or U.S. Territory driver's license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current asbestos and/or lead worker certification.
  • Will be subject to recall after normal/regular work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to lift, move, or carry items of up to 75 pounds over distances of up to 30 feet.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a forklift, man lift, and respirator certification within one year of entry on duty.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION performing a variety of maintenance-related tasks requiring the use of skills associated with locksmithing, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
