As a Simulation Systems Specialist with the Mission Support Division, Simulations Engineering Branch you will be responsible for supporting a team of Software and Hardware Engineers in the development of real-time flight simulation systems. You will provide technical expertise in the area of real-time simulation hardware, software, networks, cyber-security, application software, operating systems, data management, communication protocols and system administration.
Duties
Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Use knowledge of Linux, Windows Operating Systems, software development tools, Network systems, and communication protocols to assist Simulation Engineers to develop and integrate new hardware systems and sub-systems for real-time flight simulation.
Develop hardware and software solutions to implement Information Technology Security requirements, make risk assessments, develop mitigations and applies cyber security controls to neutralize adverse effects to real-time simulation (RTS) systems.
Ensure the rigorous application and documentation of information security/ information assurance policies, principles, and practices to real-time simulation (RTS) systems through patching, software updates, and cyber-security controls.
Provide analysis and suggest improvements for hardware and software requirements on real-time simulation (RTS) systems.
Perform regression testing on simulations systems to evaluate operability and compatibility with Information Technology Security controls in place.
Advise branch leadership and mentors others in the area of simulation systems architecture, hardware and software requirements and information technology security.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
You may meet the basic requirements through substitution of education for experience (GS-11 only).
To qualify for the GS-11, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level:
Providing technical expertise to a team or organization in the area of real-time simulation hardware, software, networks, cyber-security, application software, operating systems, data management, communication protocols and system administration;
Performing systems administration tasks such as applying cyber-security policies and risk mitigation controls on high-performance computer systems using Linux operating systems;
Assisting with the testing and analysis of high-performance computer system operability and compatibility.
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree with (1) a major in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR (2) a major that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more fields of computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, and that required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
OR
c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree with (1) a major in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR (2) a major that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of fields of computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, and that required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level:
Serving on a team responsible for real-time simulation hardware, software, networks, cyber-security, application software, operating systems, data management, communication protocols and system administration;
Making recommendations on cyber-security policies and risk mitigation controls for high-performance computer systems using Linux operating systems;
Testing high-performance computer systems to evaluate operability and compatibility and troubleshooting and mitigating issues and anomalies discovered during testing;
AND
IF you are qualifying based on experience, you MUST also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
