The purpose of this position is to assist in the accomplishment of Facilities Management program by performing carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, heating and other related maintenance and repair work. This position is located at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, Chinle, Arizona.
Duties
Makes repairs to various plumbing systems and equipment.
Modifying plumbing equipment such as sinks, lavatories, bathtubs, showers and hot water heaters.
Performs electrical duties such as removes, replaces, tightens, splices, solders and insulates defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures.
Performs carpentry duties.
Mix and blend paints. Paint buildings, structures and furniture. Cleans and maintains painting equipment.
Assuring overall yard, grounds sprinkler system, fences, drainage systems are in good repair.
Clean parking lot and removes snow around the hospital, field clinic and quarters.
Making mechanical repairs on hospital equipment.
Receives oral or written assignments from Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor which may be accompanied by sketches, drawings or blueprints.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
WG08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Following oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing maintenance mechanic duties, including use and apply standard building techniques, practices, and codes, read and understand blueprints, sketches and schematics, read and understand work orders in order to complete assigned work, use and maintain pneumatic hand tools, use and maintain shop tools, drill press, band saw, table saw, etc., follow manufacturer's instructions for use of power tools, follow safety manuals on operation of tools and equipment, follow safety guidelines working with oils and lubricants, working with inert gases and solvents, acids, adhesives, sealants, paints, oils and lubricants while performing maintenance tasks, respond to frequent changes in instructions, with respect to the team, project and/or task.
Physical Effort: Physical effort is expanded in continually standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in small or cramped quarters. Frequently carries, lifts, pulls or pushes parts and equipment weighing up to and at times beyond 50 pounds. Work is sometimes performed on ladders and/or scaffolds which requires incumbent to work overhead or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in all kinds of weather and is usually dirty, dusty, greasy. Incumbent may perform work where bad smelling fumes are present. Incumbent has frequent exposure to possibility of scrapes, burns and infections and has occasional exposure to broken bones.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
