About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio.

Duties

Serves as Chief of the Plans Branch in the Plans and Operations Division. Plans, coordinates, synchronizes and executes operational planning at the installation level that includes joint deployment, Soldier and unit readiness, and garrison support to military and civic missions and exercise development. Leads in the staff analysis of all mission requirements and establishes support requirements and procedures for all Garrison operations affecting the overall organization. Advises and briefs the Garrison Commander, Director and Division Chief, as well as other Directorate leadership on matters of mutual concern pertinent to execution of sensitive operational programs. Assists in the planning and staff actions within the EOC which includes coordination between joint partners, Garrison Directorates and installation agencies. Leads the critical daily planning and staff coordination for an installation with over 58,000 military and civilian personnel. Interacts almost exclusively with senior grade military personnel and civilian leaders on the installation, in the greater Fort Cavazos community and across other military installations. As the Chief of the Plans Branch, performs a full range of supervisory functions.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
• Position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
• The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
