This position is under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor of the Facilities Operations Section of the Facilities Management Service located at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (NAVAHCS) located in Prescott, AZ.. This position's primary purpose is the operation of grounds maintenance, equipment maintenance, heavy equipment operation, furniture moving and relocations, building renovations, building maintenance, repairs, and installations throughout the facility.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Preferred Experience: Experience with commercial healthcare construction is preferred, commercial construction experience is acceptable. Multiple trades - Electrical, Carpentry, Painting, HVAC, Pipefitting; experience in multiple trades preferred. *Residential and/or handyman experience is unacceptable. **Must have a valid state drivers license.**

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The incumbent may be required to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in awkward positions for prolonged periods. The work can sometimes require strenuous physical exertion. May handle or carry weights up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more. Assistance is usually available for handling of heavier material and equipment. Heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Work requires pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, walking, climbing, stooping, ability for normal mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, normal hearing and vision. Must have physical capabilities for working inside and outside in excessive heat and cold, noise, confined areas, inclement weather and on intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces that can be found at or in transit to or from work sites. May receive minor cuts and abrasions while performing these duties. Must be able to work from ladders and platforms, and work in awkward and uncomfortable positions.
Working Conditions:Incumbent works indoors and outdoors. Work involves frequent walking, standing and occasional desk work. The position requires stooping, bending, or working in cramped conditions under extreme temperatures (hot and cold), and in inclement weather and/or awkward positions. Incumbent must be able to work in noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy, and sometimes humid environment. Incumbent may be assigned to work in areas/confined spaces where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing, and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. He/she is subject to hazardous conditions which may include the risk of scrapes, cuts, bruises, burns, contusions, infections, broken bones, and respiratory ailments. He/she must be aware of these risks and be able to cope with them.
