The Facilities Management Service (FMS) of the Northern Arizona Prescott VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Maintenance Mechanic for the day shift at its Prescott, AZ location. The primary purpose is the operation of grounds and equipment maintenance, heavy equipment operation, furniture moving and relocations, building renovations, building maintenance, repairs, and installations throughout the facility.

Duties

The incumbent performs at the craftsman and journeyman level on a variety of equipment and systems, working with a team of different trades to the betterment of equipment, systems, and service to our veterans and their dependents. Physical Requirements: The incumbent may be required to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in awkward positions for prolonged periods. The work can sometimes require strenuous physical exertion. May handle or carry weights up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more. Assistance is usually available for handling of heavier material and equipment. Heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Work requires pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, walking, climbing, stooping, ability for normal mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, normal hearing and vision. Must have physical capabilities for working inside and outside in excessive heat and cold, noise, confined areas, inclement weather and on intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces that can be found at or in transit to or from work sites. May receive minor cuts and abrasions while performing these duties. Must be able to work from ladders and platforms, and work in awkward and uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: Incumbent works indoors and outdoors. Work involves frequent walking, standing and occasional desk work. The position requires stooping, bending, or working in cramped conditions under extreme temperatures (hot and cold), and in inclement weather and/or awkward positions. Incumbent must be able to work in noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy, and sometimes humid environment. Incumbent may be assigned to work in areas/confined spaces where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing, and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. He/she is subject to hazardous conditions which may include the risk of scrapes, cuts, bruises, burns, contusions, infections, broken bones, and respiratory ailments. He/she must be aware of these risks and be able to cope with them. Safety procedures must be followed, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task. Work may be performed from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms.
