The primary purpose of this position, ELECTRONIC INTEGRATED SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER, WL-2610-13, is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a full time and continuing basis. Responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Duties

Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers. Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. A thorough and complete knowledge of electronic/electrical theory and troubleshooting applications along with the basic knowledge of mechanical, optical, pneumatic, hydraulic, Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Automated Test Stands (ATS) systems. Interpret work orders or projects for equipment maintenance, repair or modification to determine type and amount of work required. Maintain records and document actions.

  • PHYSICAL: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and or holidays. Shift work may be required. Emergency overtime may be required.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Will be required to train/guide lower grade (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
  • The work may require the employee to operate (with proper training) specialized vehicles such as motorized maintenance platforms, High Reaches, or other types of lifts.
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate valid driver's license may be required for this position.
  • This position may require the employees to work under adverse environmental conditions.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Lead Or Supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Theory of Electronics Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools -Electronics Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Ingenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work assignments require moderate physical effort. Mechanics frequently lift, carry or otherwise handle items weighing 25 pounds and over with assistance. They work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. Occasionally climbing and working in high places may be required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is usually performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. When equipment is fixed in place it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouses or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Mechanics are subject to injuries such as electrical shock, cuts and bruises, as well as bums caused by electrical energy or soldering irons. The mechanics may be required to work in cramped positions or in close proximity to energized or operating machinery.
