You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (SHIPBUILDING) for the Hull/Structure Fit-up, Accuracy Control, Welding and Allied Processes Surveillance Division of the QA Department of SUPSHIP GULF COAST.

Duties

You will be responsible for quality assurance efforts to monitor contractor compliance to the Navy and commercial hull/structure fit-up, accuracy control, welding, non-destructive testing (NDT), and allied processes specifications and standards. You will perform procedure reviews, conduct independent surveys and Hull/NDT focused audits, provide in-process inspections, witness contractor weld qualifications, testing, and evaluations. You will Analyze the inspection results against the technical and contractual requirements, and use sound judgment to make good decisions based on the information gathered and analyzed. You will assist in maintaining the SUPSHIP Gulf Coast NDT/E program by training surveillance branch personnel in hull/NDT focused audit methods, and perform hull/NDT focused surveys of SUPSHIP cognizant shipbuilding contracts. You will assist in developing, conducting and reviewing internal training programs within the technical, industrial, and professional specialties (structure fit-up, welding, accuracy control and NTE), and areas of expertise. You will have detailed knowledge and technical experience in hull/structure fit-up, welding, brazing, accuracy control processes, and inspection standards used in the shipbuilding industry.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Level II Certification in magnetic particle testing (MT )and liquid penetrate testing (PT) disciplines is required within 18 months of accepting the position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain NBPI Certification, Cableway Certification, VT Level II Certification, ISO 9000.200 (CLE201), and Quality Assurance Audits Training (CLM 103).
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector analyzing shipboard procedure and inspection processes related to hull/structure fit-up, welding or non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure ship overhaul, repair or conversion projects meet quality and certification requirements.
