You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), Environmental, Safety & Health Dept. (106), Environmental Program Division (1068), of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.
Duties
You will input surveillance data and other quality safety data into an automated system.
You will conduct random visits to work sites for on-site inspections to determine compliance to the Federal and Contractual Compliance Program in the identification and resolutions of hazards.
You will inspect, assess, evaluate, and resolve environmental and safety issues during the maintenance, repair, and alteration of naval vessels.
Requirements

Qualifications
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Planning, scheduling, and conducting inspections within MARMC and at contractor facilities, where there is a strong probability of encountering hazardous work evolutions, materials, and unsafe environmental conditions involving substantial numbers of employees.
Determining the adequacy of environmental and safety program elements such as air pollution, water pollution, equipment, facilities, ventilation, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and personal protective equipment.
Investigating potentially hazardous conditions, practices, and equipment to identify and analyze the nature of the hazard and determine remedial action that should be taken to eliminate, correct or control hazardous conditions.
Preparing environmental and safety inspection reports, discusses findings with worksite supervisors, and MARMC management as required, and maintains follow-up to assure correction of any discrepancies.
Providing formal and informal instruction to supervisors and employees covering a variety of environmental and safety standards including environmental and safety hazard abatement, and environmental spill and mishap prevention, and safe working practices.
GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Determining the adequacy of environmental and safety program elements such as air pollution, water pollution, equipment, facilities, ventilation, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and personal protective equipment.
Analyzing mishap/accident reports to determine casual factors and trends and develop corrective actions to eliminate or control hazards and minimize recurrence.
Implementing immediate corrective actions of conditions which are of imminent danger to life or health of personnel.
Developing and conducting Environmental training for MARMC, Ship's Force, and contractor personnel.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related
GS-09:
master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
